Cultural Competemility: Merging Cultural Competence and Cultural Humility in Dental Healthcare

Participants will recognize and enhance their awareness of what the terms Cultural Competency and Cultural Humility mean and will learn how to respond to the needs of patients whose cultures and values may be quite different from their own.

This webinar will focus on how participants will:

  • Describe cultural competency and cultural humility and their importance to providing culturally sensitive patient care in the dental practice.
  • Incorporate Cultural Competemility (Cultural Competency and Cultural Humility) into clinical care of patients to improve their oral and overall health
  • Utilize the MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) Assessment to understand their communication and interaction preferences.
  • Apply their MBTI Assessment to develop competent interactions to enhance their professional relationships.

Speaker: Linda Hayes-Lutian, RDH

Ms. Hayes-Lutian is a Facilitator and National Provider, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Minority Health, Introduction to the Cultural Competency Program for Oral Health Professionals.  She is a graduate of the University of Bridgeport, Fones School of Dental Hygiene where she later served as an adjunct faculty for five years.  Her other interests include Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy and teaching BLS to healthcare providers for the American Heart Association. Ms. Hayes-Lutian has served in various leadership roles for the ADHA-CT.
